From May 4-7, ESTI senior staff members Todd Rae and Collin Provost attended EMC World in Las Vegas. We asked Todd and Collin to identify the technology session that they found most interesting, and that had the most potential to benefit ESTI customers.
The session Todd attended and indicated most beneficial was, 'ScaleIO: Maximizing Performance for Software Defined Scale-Out SAN.' Based on the session, he identified the following three key takeaways:
The ScaleIO session has relevance for certain ESTI customers in that big data and data analytics is growing, and solution sets are advancing beyond the conventional Enterprise solutions. ScaleIO will allow customers to have the flexibility and resources available to face their new big data challenges.
Collin attended, 'What's new with Data Domain, ProtectPoint and Project Falcon,' and found it to be the most beneficial. Based on the session, Collin identified the following three key takeaways:
This session in particular included many relevant uses for ESTI's customers. For example, customers who utilize the VMAX3 and Data Domain in their environment, ProtectPoint offers a powerful method of backup and will allow them to meet more stringent SLAs. Project Falcon will allow clients of all sizes to be able to deploy Data Domains to help protect remote offices where they need a small footprint, rack space is at a premium, and to allow deployment in lab environments where testing of Data Domain operating System (DDOS) upgrades and new features can be performed without the need to purchase an actual hardware appliance. The DD9500 allows larger enterprise clients to consolidate their Data Domain footprint by merging smaller Data Domains in their data center into the larger 9500. For those with remote offices, DD9500 offers a large central replication repository which is able to ingest data from multiple Data Domains at multiple sites with ease.
