A Virtualization Success Story

During the summer of 2009, McDougall Gauley LLP implemented a new and improved IT Infrastructure in the Regina office. Server virtualization technology was used to consolidate eight servers down to two new servers utilizing a modern shared storage device and a revamped backup system.

Virtualization provides increased availability for the IT infrastructure in that single points of failure are eliminated so that broken hardware does not necessarily lead to loss of any applications. In addition, server virtualization is a necessary precursor to other IT infrastructure projects such as a disaster recovery site and workstation virtualization.

McDougall Gauley LLP is planning to enhance their disaster recovery plan by implementing a 'live' disaster recovery site at one of their branch locations. This backup site will provide live copies of critical data as well as the capability to 'spin up' the virtualized IT infrastructure in the event a service interruption occurs at the Regina office.

McDougall Gauley LLP expects to reduce their overall IT costs by improving management capabilities, reducing service interruptions, and by utilizing hardware more efficiently.
