Oracle OpenWorld 2008
Interactive Reporting
- "End users can modify their own data layouts directly in the Web application to display secure, up-to-date data. Each user can rearrange a report's data and save multiple layouts for later reference, without impacting other users."
- For quick-to-release solutions that require the web platform, dashboard like tools and tight integration with Oracle, ApEx is a great option.
Forms Conversion
- "This tool will capture the design of existing Oracle Forms applications and automatically translate many of the main components. Other components, such as complex triggers, will need to be manually converted from client-side PL/SQL to server-side PL/SQL."
- "The incentive for conversion is lower costs - ApEx is free and comes standard with the Oracle DB."
- Applicable to Oracle Forms 6i, 9i and 10g
JDeveloper and ADF
- 200+ new features include Metachat, Team Dashboards, Web Services Tester
- ADFdi - Desktop Integration
- Microsoft front ends with ADF
- Most implementation is performed right in Office
- ADFdi not available in ADF 11g but coming in the foreseeable future
Oracle BIEE and Microsoft Office
- Tools for publishing and creating add-ins for Excel
- The goal is to design BI views and charts as native Office tables/charts (an interface already familiar with by users)
- Data would be interactive - direct table insertion/updates within Excel
- BI Publisher
- Convert Oracle XML Reports to PDF, HTML, Excel, etc.
Visual Studio
- Oracle is VSTO and Microsoft Office friendly
- VSTO tools have full access to Oracle features just like .NET and are used to get data into Excel thereafter it is treated as native data
- SQL*Plus engine built right into VSTO
- Main feature: PL/SQL Debugger
Statement of Direction for Tools
- WebCenter, BI Publisher, UCM, BPEL Process Manager, Fusion Middleware Application Server, Fusion (J) Developer, JRockit, Identity Manager, eSSO
Roadmap
- Forms and Reports 11g (due out in 2013)
